Mem0
Mem0 gives developers a memory API and SDK for storing, updating, and retrieving context across AI-agent sessions. It helps agent and app teams maintain relevant user context without relying only on the current conversation.
One of 50 tools in Healthcare
Who it's for
- AI application developers who need user memories to persist across agent sessions.
- Engineering teams building production AI agents that need memory extraction, updates, and retrieval through an SDK or API.
- Enterprise teams that need memory infrastructure with the listed governance, audit logging, or private deployment options.
How it fits your workflow
Install the Python SDK and create a `MemoryClient` with a Mem0 API key. The example adds conversation messages under a user ID.
As the application receives input, Mem0 extracts and updates memories. The application can then search for relevant information, using the same user ID to retrieve that user's context.
The page describes deployment options including Kubernetes, private cloud, and air-gapped environments, and lists an MCP integration.

Key features
- Persistent memory
- Stores context that can persist across sessions and agents, so AI applications can retrieve relevant information during later interactions.
- Memory extraction and updates
- The page describes a workflow in which Mem0 learns from input data, extracts memories, and updates them.
- Memory retrieval
- Developers can search stored memories, including with a user ID filter, using the Python client example on the page.
- Memory compression
- The Memory Compression Engine condenses chat history into compact memories; the page says this can reduce token use and latency while preserving relevant context.
- Enterprise controls and deployment options
- The page describes governance and observability, logged reads and writes, and deployment options including Kubernetes, private cloud, or air-gapped environments.
Works with
- Python SDK
- MCP
Alternatives to consider
-
xMem
Choose it if you want a hybrid memory orchestrator that explicitly combines persistent long-term knowledge with real-time session context and offers a dashboard.
-
llongterm
Choose it if human-readable and shareable long-term memories are central to your chatbot or agent use case.
-
Recalld
Choose it if you specifically need to store both conversations and documents and access memory through an API or native MCP server.
Getting started
pip install mem0ai
A Mem0 API key; the example uses the Python SDK.
- Get an API key from the Mem0 app and set it as `MEM0_API_KEY`.
- Install the SDK with `pip install mem0ai`.
- Save the supplied quickstart as `mem0_quickstart.py` and set a user ID.
- Run `python mem0_quickstart.py` to add and search memories.
