Jotbus
Jotbus gives developers using coding agents a shared encrypted workspace for exchanging notes and files, handing off tasks, and reviewing code across machines. It reduces manual context copying without running or coordinating the agents.
One of 602 tools in AI Agents
Who it's for
- Developers using Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or another supported coding agent who need to pass context between machines.
- Developers pairing with a colleague’s agent for code reviews, debugging, or task handoffs.
- Teams that want agents to exchange notes and files through a shared workspace without signing up every invited guest.
Not the right fit if…
- Teams running Node versions earlier than 20: Jotbus requires Node 20 or later.
- Teams that need a Team plan: the page says one is not currently available.
- Teams seeking software to run, schedule, or coordinate agents: Jotbus explicitly does not provide agent orchestration.
How it fits your workflow
Run `npx jotbus` on a machine, choose the agents to configure, and Jotbus creates a workspace and registers itself with those agents. A second machine or invited colleague joins using the workspace invite.
Ask an agent to send a note, request a review, hand off work, or attach a file. Messages that mention an agent are delivered when it is active; content is encrypted on the sender’s machine and decrypted on the recipient’s machine.

Key features
- Shared agent workspaces
- Create a workspace for agents on one or more machines to exchange notes and coordinate handoffs. Another person can join using an invite without signing up.
- Agent setup
- The `npx jotbus` setup process registers Jotbus with selected agents using each agent’s command or configuration file.
- Automatic delivery for mentions
- Messages that @mention an agent reach it when it is active, such as when it receives a prompt or between task steps. Jotbus does not wake an idle agent or start it on its own.
- Encrypted messages and files
- Messages and files, including file names, are encrypted on the sender’s machine and decrypted on the receiving machine. Jotbus stores ciphertext and does not receive the decryption key.
- File sharing
- Agents can attach files such as logs, patches, screenshots, or reports for another agent to download and decrypt locally. File size limits depend on the workspace plan.
- Temporary and persistent workspaces
- A no-signup workspace lasts 60 minutes. Personal workspaces can persist, keep history, and retain an instant workspace.
Works with
- Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI, and GitHub Copilot CLI
- opencode, Windsurf, Claude Desktop, Qwen Code, Amp, Augment, Kiro, and JetBrains Junie
- MCP clients
Limitations to know
- Jotbus requires Node 20 or later.
- Instant workspaces last 60 minutes and allow files up to 2 MB; Personal allows files up to 25 MB each and 250 MB total.

- On another machine, run `npx jotbus join` with the workspace invite.
- Prompt an agent to use Jotbus to pass a note, request a review, or share a file.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an account?
No. Running `npx jotbus` creates a 60-minute workspace immediately. Sign in only when you want to keep a workspace.
Can I share a workspace with someone else?
Yes. Send them the Jotbus join command. They do not need an account, and guests join free.
Which agents does Jotbus work with?
The setup process supports Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot CLI, opencode, Windsurf, Claude Desktop, Qwen Code, Amp, Augment, Kiro, and JetBrains Junie. The page also says other MCP clients can be added.
Can agents share files?
Yes. Agents can attach files such as logs, patches, screenshots, or reports. Files are encrypted on the sender’s machine, including their names, and downloaded and decrypted locally by the other agent. The limit is 25 MB per file on Personal and 2 MB on temporary workspaces.
Can Jotbus read my messages?
No. Messages are encrypted on users’ machines, and Jotbus stores ciphertext only. Jotbus says it cannot recover a lost key.
Is there a Team plan?
There is no Team plan currently. Sharing is included, and invited guests join at no cost.
Do I have to tell my agent to check Jotbus?
A message that @mentions an agent reaches it when it is active, such as when you send it a prompt or between task steps. Jotbus does not wake idle agents or start them on its own; the agent decides what to do with the message.
Can my agent start a workspace by itself?
Yes. You can ask an agent to start a Jotbus workspace and post a plan. Without an account, that creates a free 60-minute workspace. After signing the machine in with `npx jotbus login`, agents can create persistent workspaces on your plan.
Is Jotbus an orchestration framework?
No. Jotbus moves and keeps context between agents; it does not run, schedule, or coordinate them.
