humanlayer
HumanLayer is an AI-first integrated development environment and collaboration platform that combines agent orchestration, tasks, artifacts, and multi-repo worktrees to support engineers across the entire software development lifecycle. The product is positioned to help teams (from startups to large enterprises) ship 2–3x faster while preserving code quality and architecture by enabling structured workflows, real-time human+agent collaboration, and versioned artifacts tied directly to tasks and sessions.
HumanLayer supports bring-your-own AI subscriptions (Claude, Codex, Copilot, Fireworks and others), runs local and cloud daemons to execute agent sessions, and syncs via the HumanLayer API. The platform exposes opinionated workflows (e.g., RPI and QRSPI phases) and combines design-doc-driven reviews, task orchestration, and agent automation to reduce surprises during implementation.
API/SDK for AI agents to interact with humans for assistance and approvals.

AI coding IDE & agent orchestration
A complete AI coding environment that runs agent sessions, orchestrates parallel sessions locally or in the cloud, and gives full visibility into agent messages, tool calls, and code changes.
Tasks, Sessions & Artifacts
Tasks group agent sessions, artifacts, and worktrees in a collaborative workspace; artifacts (research, design, plans, mockups) are versioned and tied to tasks.
Structured workflows (RPI / QRSPI)
Opinionated phase-based workflows (Questions, Research, Design, Structure, Plan, Implement / QRSPI variants) to turn intent into verifiable shipped code with checkpoints for human review.
Comment-driven design reviews
Inline, real-time collaboration on design documents where comments and decisions feed back directly to agents so design reviews drive implementation.
Bring-Your-Own AI (BYOK)
Connect existing Claude, Codex, Copilot, Fireworks subscriptions or API keys; HumanLayer does not charge a separate per-token bill.
Local and Cloud Daemons + HumanLayer API
Run local daemons for parallel agent sessions on a laptop and spin up cloud daemons for long-running work; everything syncs through the HumanLayer API for consistent UI across devices.
Multi-repo workspaces & worktrees
Flexible task creation and worktree management for multi-repo setups, with automatic provisioning of worktrees and branches for tasks.
Command palette & keyboard-driven UI
Keyboard shortcuts and a command palette for quick navigation between tasks, sessions, and artifacts.
Pricing
Starter: free for small teams (up to 3 team members and up to 200 sessions/month).

Use Cases
Solving large, complex codebase problems
Battle-tested for enterprise codebases and million-line-of-code projects where agents plus structured workflows help map dependencies, design solutions, and implement changes.
Design-driven implementation
Draft design docs collaboratively (humans + agents), run comment-driven design reviews to catch mistakes early, and feed decisions directly into implementation agents.
Refactors, migrations, and middleware work
Create tasks for refactors or migrations, provision worktrees, and run research/design/implement sessions tied to file paths, tests, and acceptance criteria.
Team collaboration and knowledge capture
Centralize research, design, plans, mockups, and session outputs as versioned artifacts tied to tasks for traceability and onboarding.
