WeftCut
WeftCut lets video editors use MCP-compatible agents to make visible, reversible timeline edits in a desktop editor. Editors can review those changes, use optional local media analysis, and export in professional formats.
One of 19 tools in Video Editing
Who it's for
- Video editors who want Claude, Cursor, Codex, or another MCP client to handle timeline edits while they retain control of the edit.
- Editors creating titles, lower thirds, or other reusable motion designs who want an agent to build and refine Motifs on the timeline.
- Editors who need a desktop timeline with keyframes, effects, captions, audio mixing, and export to formats such as ProRes or AV1.
Not the right fit if…
- People who need a ready-made Intel Mac or ARM Linux build: the page says those targets must be built from source.
- Editors who need an AI model bundled in the app: WeftCut ships no models, and agent-based editing uses an external MCP client.
How it fits your workflow
Download and open the desktop editor, then connect an MCP client by copying a snippet from Settings → Agent. Give the agent an instruction such as removing interview silences or splitting footage at shot changes.
The agent makes edits on the timeline under a checkpoint. Review the change feed and timeline, undo edits if needed, refine the result, and export the full timeline or selected ranges.
For motion graphics, describe a design for the agent to turn into a Motif, preview it on the timeline, polish it in context, and reuse it. Optional shot, silence, transcription, and scene analysis runs locally.

Key features
- MCP agent editing
- Connect Claude, Cursor, Codex, or another MCP client through Settings → Agent. The agent can use the editor's editing capabilities, with a bundled Skill describing what WeftCut can do.
- Visible, reversible edits
- Agent edits appear live on the timeline under a checkpoint. Editors can review the change feed and undo changes.
- Timeline editing tools
- The editor supports trimming, splitting, transitions, keyframes, effects, captions, markers, playback, scrubbing, grouping, and blade editing.
- Motifs for reusable motion design
- Describe a title, lower third, callout, or other design for the agent to turn into a Motif, preview it on the timeline, refine it, and reuse it.
- Optional local media analysis
- Local analysis can provide shot detection, silence detection, transcription, and scene descriptions for an agent to use while editing.
- Captions and titles
- Import SRT, VTT, or ASS subtitle files and restyle captions across a video. The editor also supports titles.
Works with
- MCP clients
- FFmpeg
Limitations to know
- WeftCut does not bundle AI models; agent-based editing requires connecting an MCP client.
- Ready-made builds are listed for Windows 64-bit, Apple Silicon macOS 13 or newer, and x86_64 Linux. Intel Macs and ARM Linux require building from source.
Alternatives to consider
-
OpenChatCut
Choose it if you want a conversational desktop-first editor that uses agents to edit timelines, rather than WeftCut's MCP-centered editor and reusable Motifs.
-
Arsaze
Choose it if you want integrated AI generation for video, image, and audio alongside agent-controlled editing in a multi-track editor.
Getting started
Ready-made builds cover Windows 64-bit, Apple Silicon macOS 13 or newer, and x86_64 Linux. Other targets, including Intel Macs and ARM Linux, require building from source.
- Download the build for your platform, or build from source for another target.
- Open Settings → Agent and copy the connection snippet.
- Paste the snippet into Claude, Cursor, Codex, or another MCP client.
- Request an edit and review the visible timeline changes.
